The Ocean is Amazing

Mimic Octopus
Octopuses are thought to be one of the most intelligent invertebrates and can change the color and texture of their skin to blend in with rocks, algae, or coral to avoid predators. But until now, an octopus with the ability to actually assume the appearance of another animal had never been observed.

“Having studied many octopus species in the wild, I am never surprised by the color and shape change capacities of these animals,” said Mark Norman of the Melbourne Museum in Australia. “However, this animal stood out as it was the only one we’ve encountered that goes beyond camouflage to take on the guise of dangerous animals.”

This octopus can change up to 15 known species, maybe even more. Its completely fascinating watching it change its shape and color instantly. Wait until around the 1:20 mark, because you will see an Octopus fucking run. Coolest thing in the world.

Los Vegas at Night: The Brightest Spot on Earth

"This image shows the Las Vegas metropolitan area is located near the southern tip of Nevada, within the Mohave Desert. The Vegas Strip (center) is reputed to be the brightest spot on Earth due to the concentration of lights on its hotels and casinos.
The acquisition of focused nighttime images requires astronauts on the International Space Station to track the target with the handheld camera while the ISS is moving at a speed of more than 7 km/s (over 15,000 mph) relative to the Earth’s surface."

Stomatopods

"These special arthropods (stomatopods) have 16 visual pigments! We only have four, and we can see millions of colors. Their vision is hyperspectral, they can see ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, as well as polarized light.  They have 360 degree vision and three parts of each eye can focus on the same spot, so each individual eye has trinocular vision with depth perception.  They have a very large focal range and the eyes can emit light, which is used for communication.
They have the most complex visual organs on the planet."
